What happens to the swords from swordfish when they are caught?

Question

I was watching a program on the TV about boats fishing for swordfish on the Grand Banks and I noticed that when the fish were unloaded at the quay that they had all had their swords cut off. Are they used for something or are they just thrown away. I would like to obtain one if it is possible.

Update:

I don't want to know what happens to the swordfish-of course they die. I want to know what happens to the sword which they have cut off. Surely somebody must know.

It wil be turned in to fertiliser for the fields,or fish food ,or pet food ,

If you want to make a story out of it. Say, legend has it that before there were swords, men just used to go around throwing stones at each other and hitting each other with clubs. Which didn't go down to well because it used to bend the golf clubs and make it very difficult to hit a ball with one. Then one day a king found a Swordfish lying on the beach and being hungry decided to eat it. Knowing that you couldn't cut the nose of the fish being that it was so hard he cut the head off and started to cook the fish over a fire. Suddenly a group of vagabonds, that's people who are bad and should be tied up, tried to come and steal the fish. So he took up the head of the fish and slew the vagabonds. A Blacksmith who was passing, he makes things out of metal, saw this and decided it would be a good idea to make the nose of that fish out of metal.And that's why we have swords, although the original sword was made of bone. Sorry I've got an over active imagination.
