What is the difference between solid top and laminate top guitars?

I have never played a guitar before but i am looking to get one so that i can learn a few chords and pick along with the buddy's around the camp fire. I would like a good sounding guitar but i am not looking to spend a whole lot of money. not over 200. but i have been reading on here and i have seen people say that you need a "solid top" guitar. can someone explain the differences between the two?

also has anyone ever heard of indiana guitar company? they have a cheaper line of guitars and they are a local company that is stocked around here just wanted to know if anyone has played this line. I also wanted to know what makes one guitar better than another without playing it if you could give a beginners buying guide 101 what would it be?

thank you for your answers now.

I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure a solid top guitar is when the soundboard is one piece of wood, and a laminate top guitar's soundboard is laminated wood (many thin pieces of wood sandwiched together). There isn't really a way (that I know of) to differentiate between the two, other than solid top guitars are usually higher end and more expensive because they produce a better tone with more sustain. That guitar is probably solid top, but that's just a guess. By the way, that's a really nice guitar. I played one at a music shop and it felt and played great.
