I was thinking of combining 2 family names to create a first name for my son.?

I combined the names Dyer and Gere and the resultant is Dyrere. Any input is appreciated.

Update:

To be pronounced: Die-Rear

Update 2:

Rubybenubi... No worries, I have a friend that works at Target's corporate center. He'll be able to buy pencils with his name on them...

Update 3:

PS - I heart Elvis!

Elvis sang it best: "Don't Be Cruel".

...you will negate the first law of good parenting: first, do no harm

...this isn't about YOU...the child will share your DNA and you will provide all the love, care, and attention possible, so why can't he have a name that's his very own (unique to him)...how selfish are you, anyway?

...this idiotic name will force your child to spend his entire life (that's 75-80 years!!!) pronouncing, spelling, and explaining...I call that cruel and unusual punishment just for having been born to you

...as a child, he'll always be disappointed since he'll never be able to buy a pencil at Target with his name on it

...as a job-seeker, he'll fall to the bottom of the list; HR people spend approximately 15 seconds on a résumé and they won't want to deal with figuring out if it's die-rear or die-ray-ray

...heck, even his tombstone will probably get misspelled

In case you missed it, I think this is the crappiest thing I've heard all day.

It's a nice idea, but the name you came up with will be a problem for your son. People won't know how to pronounce it -- DIE-rer-ree? die-REAR-ree? die-REAR? The kids at school are likely to change it to Diaper or Diarrhea or Dry-rear or even more creative teasing. I think Geyer -- GYE-er -- would be a better choice (because he can use Guy as a nickname). Or choose two other family names to combine.

I really think your son would get teased unmercifully b/c of the "rere" and also b/c Dyrere sounds almost like diarrhea said real fast. Here are some other ideas that you might like:

    Dyger (like Tiger)

    Geyer (pronounced GUY-er)

or, anagram resulting in the first and middle, using all letters exactly once: Reed Grey

Sounds like Die and Rear mixed together. Sorry

    So... Dryer + Rear = ?

Why not something like Roger, which combines sounds, but is a legit name?

  • Diarreah?

How About Ryder or Gerey [Gary/Gerry]?

I would think it would sound like derriere which is another name for someone's bottom lol

  • Try Deere or Reed... Dyrere reminds me of my derriere.
