Why are most people idiots?

The inanity in today's society is unbelievable. Has proper English, education, and the ability to follow instructions become archaic in past years, or is it simply because people are becoming apathetic towards how they present themselves to others?

Update:

I did not describe education as formal. Education is aquired knowledge, how you aquire it is not important. An idiot is defined as an uneducated or ignorant person, saying someone lacks a certain amount of education is indicative of idiocy. Anyone can aquire vast amounts knowledge.

Update 2:

Everyone has the opportunity to learn proper english. I was born to a mother who made $10,000 a year and a father who spent most of it on drugs and drug paraphernalia. I went to the second worst high school in the state and I still went on to Cornell University and have a more advanvced vocabulary than most of you who had the audacity to answer this question in a rude and infuriating manner.

Well, I believe all those aforementioned subjects are just casualties in the decline of Western Civilization.

People are idiots because they choose to be. End of story. We are in an age where we have a wealth of information literally at our fingertips. There is no excuse to be stupid and people who are became that way because they don't give a crap, frankly! There will always be people of all ages, races and walks of life who pursue knowledge and wisdom. Many people too will choose the path of apathy. All we can do is try to live, learn and find like minded people in this vast sea of morons! Trust me, I ask this question all the time but most people are too stupid to give a decent answer! I hope this answer works for you!

It's a mix of idiocy and entitlement. Today's society is full of people who feel entitled. Who each feel that they are the exception to the rule because of whatever specific circumstances they feel exclude them from adhering to the rules that are supposed to bind or keep the rest of us on one tangent. I don't know when this began, because I'm part of this generation too. However, I was not raised with the concept of entitlement, so I can step away and recognize it when I see it. We have a generation, or more, of human beings who feel the world owes them and that they are here to be served by the rest of humanity, unconditionally and whether they deserve it or not, without having done anything to earn what they are demanding.

Not having formal education does not necessarily make you an idiot. That's where your argument is flawed... Many people don't have the opportunity to learn "Proper English' as you know it. And the ability to follow instructions comes from your upbringing, which still... doesn't necessarily make you an idiot.

The reason Bill Gates was in New Mexico during his teen years was to develop technology derived from the Roswell UFO crash so the only reason we have computers today is because we have replicated alien technology. Now he is a billionaire thinking HE is the only who invented the computer chip when it was actually a replica of an alien computer chip on the UFO that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico.

    THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!!

Many people make the choice to resort to technology for entertainment instead of imagination or hard work. They are less motivated to go out and be active or to make themselves an individual. By using "most people" you yourself are categorizing. One cannot say most people; we are all different and all have different thinking patterns. Depending on how we were raised or the education we received we also all have different morals and daily manners.

People have always been naturally dumb. The people who are smart enough to grasp concepts such as the rules of the English language (or whatever language they speak) are few and far-between, but it's not some new, big thing; smarter people have been hating stupid people for ages.

EDIT: Nippy does have a point, so the proper English thing is nullified. I'm referring more to people who just lack brain power, not smart people who are underprivileged.
