We will be in London during the general election. What disruptions , if any, can we expect?

We will be flying out of Heathrow on the 6th May. During elections, are there increased security, is it busier or quieter in Pubs, restaurants etc.

as a tourist you shouldn't find much disruption ... security is targeted towards particular events or hotspots and there is always a high level of security in London but not the sort of security that is likely to disrupt your holiday ... as everyone else has already said, the media will be hyping everything non-stop but shops, pubs, restaurants are likely to continue much as usual

I think there will be more people out and about, going to and from the polling stations but other than that I doubt there will be much difference. The elections in the UK are not as big events as in other countries such as USA. Gordon Brown and the other chap Cameron will be roaming the country begging for votes so security will only really be tighter than normal in the immediate vacinity of those and possibly some of the other MPs.

The TV, radio and newspapers will be full of election rubbish for several days though most of the normal programmes like Eastenders, Coronation Street etc will still be on TV.

Not much. There will be election posters up, and probably a few people handing out political leaflets, but that's about it. Voting takes place at designated polling stations (usually somewhere like a local school hall, church hall, or community centre) but it's all fairly low key.

Apart from seeing political posters, it will make no difference!

The news media will hype it up. The politicians will be trying to grab our attention. However, the vast majority of us will be carrying on with our lives as usual.

    There will be no violence.

We aren't a fiercely political nation. Not everybody even bothers to vote. I shall vote but I'm not very excited about it!

The thing you will notice most, is the Media saturation of the election. The papers, TV, and the radio will be plugging it all day. You`ll get sick of hearing about it.
