We will be in London during the general election. What disruptions , if any, can we expect?

We will be flying out of Heathrow on the 6th May. During elections, is there increased transport security, is it busier or quieter in Pubs, restaurants etc. Why do they have an election on a Thursday?

.

Elections in the UK are very sedate affairs, the polls open at 7.00am and close at 10.00pm so there is no rush to vote.

London will carry on as usual with no discernible difference to any other day.

Elections are traditionally held on a Thursday and the 'winner' declared on the Friday, this gives the incoming Prime Minister the whole of the weekend to form the new government to present to the Monarch.

Unlike the US our 'Secretaries' are not appointees but already elected to Parliament .... (your Congress) and so they do not have to be approved as political appointees.

Please enjoy your stay in our country and my best wishes to you.

    Edit.

There may well be some victory celebrations though.
