If I stick the cd-rom from microsoft that has windows xp on it in my computers cd-rom drive?
Will that re-boot my computer while erasing every thing on my hard drive in the process?

Yes of course it will!
Back up any files you want keep e.g. Music,My Documents etc,etc
- BEFORE doing so!
Your computers hard drive will then be squeaky clean
Remember to 'reinstall' anti-virus and anti-spyware at the very least.
