Where to live in Tasmania.?
I'm sure you guys have seen my previous posts about moving to Tassie. Now to get to some nitty gritty. Where would one recommend to live. It's just my wife and I plus our 2 dogs. We are after an area with modest house prices, we'd be renting initially and looking to pay no more than $240/week based at current rates we all know they'll go up over the next few years (our current rent in Sydney which is cheap really) for a 3 bedroom home. We are also after an area with plenty of employment opportunities, reasonable public transport and decent shopping. I know that Tassie being what it is that for someone from Sydney even outside of town like Kingston (stayed there recently) is quite good as far as commuting. Being in community services I'm not interested in making huge money and I know Tassie is not the place to do so, but am after the cool climate and laid back life style...and the lack of people too, so I'm also after somewhere that doesn't get too hot and is fairly quiet (though to me even Hobart city centre on New Years Day was quiet especially coming from Sydney). Sorry if I sound picky but when one is trying to follow a dream. I'm also interested in possibly furthering my studies and would like to see what options I have available for that...I'm currently trained to Certificate 4 level.
I remember passing through Bridgewater. From the perspective of coming from Sydney it's still close to town. We passed through Launie as well and it felt more built up than Hobart. Great view down the hill too. Thank you so far.
Globetrotter I don't want to find cities like Sydney, hence part of the reason for move. However as the only cities I've encountered (besides having been to Hobart and Launie) are east coast. Sydney is just good for comparison (in a relative sense of course) as it's the place I'm most familiar with sadly.

Hello.
Well Hobart is quite a small suburban city, which in fact is even smaller than Canberra. You will find a lot of 3 bedroom homes with enough room for you and your dogs, but the inner city homes in the suburbs such as West Hobart, North Hobart, Battery point etc. are the older smaller cottage style homes. So for the homes with the bigger backyards which probably are actually cheaper than the inner city homes because they are slightly more out there. Try suburbs such as Glenorchy, Rosny park etc.
The public transport isn't that great in Hobart - just buses, so it is more of a car city but it shouldn't take to long to get to places.
A home like this at the most outer part of the city only sets you back at rent of $240, which of course is a good price, but it is a bit out there.

This house is few suburbs closer to the city and is only 40 more bucks than the one before, but this house doesn't look as nice.

This home is for $380 rent but is in a suburb next to the city. Its one of the older cottage like homes i was mentioning before. http://www.domain.com.au/Property/For-Rent/House/T...
Most employment opurtunities will be in the city.

You won't find cities like Sydney in Tasmania and the two major cities are Hobart and Launceston, both have a city centre with a few bars, shopping malls and restaurants but without that metropolis vibe. Both are more quite and places from where to explore the different places in Tasmania, like the coastal towns and national parks. I'll send you a link with more information and photos!
