Who do you think will emerge as the AL MVP this season?
Just curious what people have to say and what their reasoning is!
Flyers Fan: I can totally see Longoria making a run. I also wouldn't be surprised if Upton had a monster year seeing as he was hurt most of last year.
Graham: Tex is a great ballplayer that can hit from either side of the plate. Plus, he's a gold glove 1st baseman. Not a bad choice!
Ohigan: Choo is a good ballplayer that can definitely produce, but I'm not sure he'll be in the top 5 in the AL. Unfortunately, the MVP often times goes to the "best player" as opposed to the most valuable player.
David: Good call on Mauer. It'll be interesting to see how he plays now that his contract extension is in order. It can work in one of 2 ways...He has less stress which will allow him to play with less angst OR he'll fall off a bit and worry less about his production.
Twinstripes: See the comment I left for David!
Rust: I agree! Cano has started off hot and with the protection that he has in that lineup, he's sitting in the driver's seat. He's always going to have ducks on the pond with the likes of Granderson, Jeter, AROD and Tex sitting in front of him. I can't think of a better #5 hitter in baseball. Robbie Cano's only problem is that he's lazier than hell!

Robby Cano is most likely going to be in the running for MVP this year... he could very well score and drive in 100+ runs in the yankee lineup.
He hits for high average, has power, and steals bases... I never want to see a Yankee win anything, but if he plays to his potential all season he is going to be right there.
However... If Longoria stays healthy I believe that his numbers will be too ridiculous to not land him the award. He could win a gold glove and hit 40+ homeruns, and lead the Rays to the playoffs in the toughest division in baseball... its not too far fetched.

There are so many good players in the AL, but I'll say look out for a surprise. Players like Robinson Cano, Evan Longoria, Miquel Cabrera and other young talented rising stars could very well be in the race if they're healthy all season long. At the same time, look out for the veterans such as A-Rod, Mauer, Teixeira, Youkilis and others to have monster years.

Mauer's my number one pick. If not him... dare I say Kevin Youkilis? He's finished in the top 6 the last 2 years. Outstanding defensively and fantastic at the plate - he can work counts like few others can, is incredibly clutch (last year hit over .380 with 2 outs and RISP!) and of course, being 'the Greek God of Walks', gets on base like crazy. He was the MVP of the Sox last year and I think his talent will continue to shine through, and he'll help lead the team this year.

Shin-Soo Choo from the Cleveland Indians
Why? Because he is awesome! Plus, I am a Tribe fan!!

Joe Mauer.
Because he's Joe Mauer!
Haha.
I'm not going to draw up a prediction as to his stats, but getting his contract done and knowing he's staying home for most of his career is going to drive him.

Joe Mauer. Simply because he dominated the league and there is no clear-cut challenger to him. Doesn't mean he will win, but someone will need to step up their game to emerge from the pack.
