If it's a land turtle (terrestrial) it could be a box turtle.
If it's an aquatic, it could be a southern painted, midland painted, western painted, eastern painted, northern red belly, florida red belly, alabama red bellied turtle, etc. There are tons of possibilities.
You might want to check out this site and look for the turtle you found. http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_of_turtles/...
I think you should put him back to where you found him. Capturing a turtle from the wild is illegal. The turtle can also have diseases you can catch and it will likely die due to stress.

Unless he is non-native to your area and is in fact an escaped pet, let him go. Capturing a wild turtle is not only illegal, it is cruel. If you post a picture on here people will be able to tell you if he's native to your state or not.

2.shrimps
3.goldfish,etc
generally turtles are carnivrous when they are infants, later they turn up omnivorous eating cabbage, lettuce, spinach, etc.

Most likely an eastern painted turtle but there are less common ones that fit your vague description. Feed it earthworms, bait fishes, and strips of liver.

Let it go in a safe place closest to where you found it. There, it will have a chance to live free and have a normal life.
