Why is the new window 7 Works is not compatible with the WORDS programs?

This new version is advertised all over the place and I got a new computer with this version for text, and ever since, I've been having troubles because most of my friends cannot open my messages. I had to buy a version of WORDS to install it, but in the commercials, they do not mention this! Can someone give me an explanation for this? Thank you much

Works is indeed compatible with Word. When you save a file go to File -> Save As and choose to save it as Word format (docx or doc for older versions of Word).

Microsoft changed the file format for MS Office 2007 from .doc to .docx which frustrates MANY people!

You'll need to go into MS Word 07 and go into the settings then change the default file format to MS Word 97-2003 format which is .doc.

Also, you'll need to do the same with MS Excel to change the default setting to MS Excel 97-2003 format which is .xls.

The MAIN reason to NOT use MS Office 2007 is the Darn new Ribbon Interface!

Otherwise, stick with MS Office 2003 but you'll to add the Conversion Add-On so you can read the newer MS Office 2007 files in case Your friends give you MS Office 2007 files using the new formats!

If you save the file as a .docx file, people with Word 2003 and earlier can't open it. You have to save it as a .doc or .wps file. (People running Word 2007 have the same problem.)
