Problem with iTunes...?

..."An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect ipod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes and reinstall iTunes again."

My iTunes has been popping up with this message for a couple of days, regarding an ipod that i have had since December and has been working sufficiently since then until now. It there anything i can do besides uninstalling itunes to fix this? and if I do uninstall it, will everything be erased?

I have had this happen a few times.

just unplug your iPod then plug it back in and iTunes should then be able to read it.

if you do have you uninstall iTunes and then install it again, you shouldn't lose anything in your library.
