A murder of crows flying in circular formation?
One day I watched a large murder of crows flying overr a specific spot in our neighbourhood and they were all just circling over one area of the town. Why would the crows do this?

neighbourhood eh. many raptors when migrating form what are know as kettles or screws. they catch the uplifting air to gain altitude then will bee line it in the direction they wish to go. this way the don't waste energy by flapping. crows usually don't perform this action, ravens and vultures can, but usually not sustained. if the birds maintained the circular motion for an extended period of time, you were probably seeing red-tailed hawks and who knows what else.

since I assume they were high in the air are you sure they were crows? More than likely they were vultures circling a dead carcass in the woods. they both are large black birds.
vultures are much uglier

Sounds like the betrayal of some one or signifying a death as in a funeral procession.

RE: Why do they call it a 'homicide' of crows? i will wrap my head around a 'delight' of lions or a 'flock' of ducks, yet a 'homicide' of crows only escapes me.
