The only reason to believe in Atlantis is that Plato wrote about it. There are no other surviving ancient records of it.

Santorini, an island just north east of Crete, almost fits the bill. It is a circular volcanic island that blew up about 4,000 years ago and sent a big tsunami that wiped out the Minoans on Crete. Both the people on Santorini and the Minoans were very advanced at the time.

The problem with Santorini being Atlantis is that Plato puts Atlantis clearly in the Atlantic Ocean, which is how the ocean got its name. So it fits everything except the location.

Its also fairly widely accepted that Plato didn't mean the story to be a record of fact but to give criticism of societies - he meant it as a metaphorical story. I don't know if I believe that or not, but it was true then he probably used Santorini as a model for his metaphor and put the imaginary island far far away, in the Atlantic. As I say, I don't know I believe this but it is plausible.

Well there are multiple ways to look at it.

    1) You could say that to Homer(wrote about Atlantis) and the other Ancient Greeks any land to the west that was over the Atlantic (*hint*Americas*hint*) could be considered the "lost" land

    2) You could look at the facts that many ancient civilizations from the Greeks to the Aztecs had legends about a lost land in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean and had a similar** name to Atlantis

3)*** (For the more paranormal types) You could say that aliens landed their huge spaceship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and made friends with everyone else and are now remembered as Atlanteans

Source(s): **= by similar I mean it looks closely related when put to the same language ***= I'm not serious about this. This was for laughs just to let you know.

Yes its of the coast of South America you can see it on Google earth.

I would tell you were but Google banned me from using Earth after I found it and started telling people the bastards.

But just look between Southern Mexico and Brazil to the northeast of the continent zoom in to about 20 miles and when you see 3 perfect squares about 20 miles of the coast of some town I forget the name you can look around until you see perfect geometric shapes in the waters It can't be natural because they are too perfect and way the **** too large its about 3 or 4 times the size of the town it's next to the only reason nobody has found it yet is because you would have to be lucky as **** to find it by diving or swimming.

You can count canals and streets you cant miss it I bought **** a brick when I saw it.

That will depend on two things; 1. where the heck it is and 2. how long this website is open. I personally believe that earlier advanced cultures existed on Earth, and then up and died on us. To be honest I'm a little dissapointed int them.

Someone try to explain how reality automatically conforms itself to individual belief. I'd like to hear that.

No, really. I'd like to hear how a mythical creature is actually real if you believe in it, but unreal if you don't believe.

I still can't believe people are that stupid, but they keep showing up anyway, in spite of my disbelief.

So much for that theory, eh?

Nope. No evidence for it at all except for the writings of one guy in ancient greece, and his account doesn't even add up correctly.
