Has a racehorse ever managed to win 2 seperate horse races in one day? I believed that horses could only be entered in one race. Many thanks

Dont know about a horse winning two races on the same day but i do recall back in the 1970s a horse called Traffic Leader ran in two seperate races at the same race meeting and managed to win one race and was placed in the other.

No, maybe years ago..not a smart move since Thoroughbreds need time to recover from the stress of racing. They need "down" time to come back to soundness for the next race. However, the amount of time is different, simply because all horses are different, some horses thrive on racing and could race more often, ideally, horses need time between races usually at least 2, 3, or even 4 months. Horses will run better when refreshed. Horses still need track-work, otherwise, if track-work is stopped for a period of days or a week, horses will lose they residual fitness.

In the old days (a couple of hundred years ago) horses used to run in heats and then the winners would race against each other at the end of the day. I know that until relatively recently it was possible to enter a horse for two races on the same card but I'd be surprised if its still allowed these days

The single greatest race horse in my opinion was Secrateriat ,but one of my personal favorites of all-time was Silver Goblin. Other 10 honorable metions are: 1) Alydar 2) Cigar 3) Seattle Slew 4) Zenyatta 5) Spectacular Bid 6) Ghostzapper 7) Holy Bull 8) Citation 9) Skip Away 10) Affirmed

Never now a days, the safety of the horse would be in jeopardy. Jockey's are known to win more than one race in a day, but not the same horse, putting a horse in more than one race a day is illegal, and would be dangerous to the horses health. They are many rules and regulation in the horse racing industry set by the horse racing commission.

Virago won the City and Suburban Handicap (probably 10 furlongs) and the Great Metropolitan Handicap (probably 18 furlongs) at Epsom on 6th April 1854.
Also the Great Metropolitan Handicap was run twice on the same day in 1903 and was won by Wavelet's Pride each time.

Yes I'm sure in times gone by many a good racehorse was entered twice on the same day and won both. These days it wouldnt happen but it has happened. Check out Carbine (australian galloper) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbine_(horse)

in new zealand up to the 1960s it was common for horses to race twice in the one day , usually having 2-3 hours between races. it was stopped when the horses became more fitter and highly strung as the breed got more refined

I remember a trainer at the end of 1970,s early 80,s.His name was Harry Bell I think,he ran a horse in the 3.30 then again in the 4.30,it was nowhere in the 1st race and pulled up in the 2nd race.I think he got done for neglect later in his career.

Of course trotting is different than thoroughbreds, not as powerfull over distance.
But in the hambiltonion, there are number of heats to get to the winner. Can anyone explain why fatigue doesn't set in with a trotter?
