Why is all of baseball wearing #42 to honor Mariano Rivera?
What has he done for the sport to get this honor? Jackie Robinson is probably rolling over in his grave

I don't know what is funnier....your question or the answers from people who didn't get the joke.

Awhile ago when they retired Robinson's number in all of baseball they made it a rule that any player currently wearing the number 42 could have it until he was traded or retired (then the team had to officially retire it). Mariano Rivera just happens to be the very last player to still be playing with the same team with the same number. So until he retires, he will be the last one with number 42.

Are you stupid...they are honoring Jackie Robinson not Mariano Rivera because Robinson actually did something important for the game

I heard Mariano Rivera is going to retire after this season, so George Steinbrenner paid all the other players to respect a life-long Yankee great. In a few years, everyone will wear number 2 one day to honor Derek Jeter.

Mariano Rivera became into wearing 40 two on the time the style became into retired; all of the gamers wearing 40 two on the time have been "grandfathered," meaning they could positioned on 40 two as long as they did no longer retire or substitute numbers.

there wearing it to honor jackie robinson you noob. it just so happens that mariano has the same number, but they're wearing it for jackie. at the yankee game, Jackie's grandson and his 2 kids threw out the first pitch to the game.

Well.. not everybody.
The Washington NATINALS screwed up their uniforms again. Apparently they were all wearing #44 to honor Adam Dunn.
