The results usually take several days to be interpreted by a neurologist
The most common reason an EEG is performed is to diagnose and monitor seizure disorders. EEGs can also help to identify causes of other problems such as sleep disorders and changes in behavior. EEGs are sometimes used to evaluate brain activity after a severe head injury or before heart or liver transplantation.

Why did you take your son to the doctor? this is likely to bear some bearing on what the doctors were looking for. A large number of things can be seen on a eeg things including(but not limited to) brain wave patterns, brain abnormalities and possibly blood supply. As for how long the results will take will depend on how many people are having scans and waiting for results they should have told you when to contact your doctor
