You could look up the Loudness War. Bands are making their albums louder and louder, while the dynamic range gets lower and lower. It's raising a lot of criticism. Ever listen to Metallica's Death Magnetic? The lack of range completely ruined the CD, I like the songs but I don't even listen to the album because I hate the loudness.
