this question is for the ford 4 by 4 experts. i have a 1978 ford pu 4by4 short bed and its a step side.?
someone stole both drive shafts. it has a 400 motor and is a automatic. what year models will interchange drive shafts. im thinking the front should be the same on long beds and the rear would be the same on all short beds. would a regular truck rear shaft work.i have been told by several friends that short step sides are scarce. true? thanks for any help

any short box 4x4 ,not just the step side will work. The body style my change but the frame and drivetrain is the same .probly be able to go back to a 76 , or forward to a 80 and find what you want in any salvage yard.Just make sure you replace all the u joints.Short box fords are plentiful. the stepside is a model that usually had a limited production run. But like I said any short box will work.Good luck.
