My upright spin needs help!?
In my upright spin I get that you have to bend your knees as you go in and make sure your spin is centered but I am struggling to keep my leg close to the leg I am spinning on (it goes out too wide).I am taking my NISA level 1 elements and free + my NISA level 2 feild moves on thursday and upright spin being part of the elements so any help ASAP would be muchly appreciated whether you are from the USA or UK- wherever!Plus any tips for my tests as a bonus if you like ;)
What I meant is when I am holding my leg out in front it is like out to the side before I pull in which is putting my spin off centre-how can I get my leg which is in front before spinning to be closer?

It's a strength issue - start doing daily leg lifts, preferably with light ankle weights. HOld the in-front position for 20 seconds. Repeat on each foot 10 times. Do this exercise at least once a day.
On ice, start doing glides with the free leg held firmly in front of the skating foot. Keep that position for the length of the rink. Repeat on each side, 10 times.
There's another on-ice exercise called "cross strokes." Ask your coach to show you how to do them. You start on a forward outside edge, then bring the free foot around from behind to cross over onto the forward outside edge of the free foot. It takes practice to find the outside edge - deep knee bends and holding that free foot across the body will help tremendously. Repeat for at least five lengths of the arena.

Okay, well as you enter your spin, make sure you keep your free leg (ie the one you're not spinning on) straight out in front of you for a few rotations first. (If that makes sense) Don't let it swing to the side, otherwise you will never be able to pull your leg in.
Keep it in front and then pull it in so you have your boot resting against your knee. Bring your arms in at the same time.
To practise getting your leg into that position, practice spinning and holding one hand on the knee to keep it in place.
I can't help much with the field moves tests, as I've only started learning Level 1 fieldmoves but I have one tip :P Make sure you bend your knees on the edges.
Sorry couldn't be of any help for that but I hope it helps for your spins :)

I am a Figure skater myself and i had troubles wwith my upright spin too... but all u have to do to keep ur foot to the side instead of infront is when u r going into it keep ur foot behind u longer then bring to the side and to keep it from going to the front just make ur arms square when u r centering it then just go in to the spin.
I hope this helps and Good luck on your test u will do GREAT!!!

partly it could just be from body strength which you an improve upon with sit ups and push ups. keep your body as till as possible and tight locking your stomach and legs. after 1 rev. you can pull both your arms and legs in, the important part is to keep your body straight the whole time w/out breaking at the waist
