I think the rules of golf are terrible what happend to brian wilson is a joke at the verizon heritage.?

These self infraction rules in golf make the game look sissy and very gay ''I touched a limb I must be honest to thyself lol... I hate most of the rules of golf as many of them do not make any sense they do not hurt you or help you for instance a a caddie could say the number iron you are hitting and you could be disqualified why are these rules officials even at tournaments? You hit the ball and play it as it lies that's it there should be one universal rule no cheating such as dropping balls if this was the case your disqualified easy as that. Why this ticky tacky rules where if the ball moves you are penalized touch a stick penalized touch the water in the hazard penalized etc...

Update:

There is no logic to most of these rules why have a rule if it has no purpose forget the honor crap why enforce a rule that does nothing? He was able to make a swing in the hazard but would be penalized if he did so se how unlogical this is as most of the rules are.

Brian Wilson is a musician. Brian Davis is the golfer who called the illegalcontact to the attention of the officials. The official confirmed the two stroke penalty. He was playing hones by the rules of golf. More power to him!

Golf rules are there for a reason-to keep order in play. All golfers have to abide by them so the playing is indeed fair. BTW, with the position Brian Davis was in, it's highly unlikely he could have gotten up and down in two to force another hole. Furyk would still have won.

Obviously you are not one to play golf honorably. The way golf is self officiated is one of the reasons why the game is great and has been great for hundreds of years.

Granite, this was truly a bummer for Brain but kudos for him to call the penalty on himself especially knowing that this was going to cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. It was such a subtle incident that he probably could have "gotten away" with it. However Rule 13 clearly states that this is a violation and a 2 stroke penalty should be invoked. Was the rule put into place for this very reason, certainly not. However it does keep one from clearing away loose impediments and bettering your lie. You are in a hazard, you have made a mistake.

This type of honor amongst golfers is what makes golf great and what separates it from other sports such as basketball which is played by a bunch of thugs at the pro ranks. Where the outcomes are controlled by officials not even participating. Could you imagine the NBA being officiated by the players much the way pick-up games are played? There is no honor in the NBA.

I believe in Karma and even though this self imposed 2 stroke penalty cost Brian dearly, he will win one day and many other days to come. And to those of us that play the game with a sense of honor truly appreciate and respect what Brian did. He is a great example of what makes golf a great game.
