2010 Comely Stakes - A. Dutrow v. Edgar Prado?

Just wondering what people thought about Tony Dutrow firing and publicly reprimanding Edgar Prado for his ride in the Comely Stakes. After all, it was Fernando Jara who came in on Edgar, almost causing rider and horse to fall down. And, it was Jara who the stewards suspended. But, I suppose if Dutrow explicitly told Edgar to keep the filly on the outside, then Edgar was wrong.

Tony Dutrow obviously felt Edgar Prado put his filly in a precarious situation and acted carelessly in the way he rode his filly in the race (quote) when Prado was attempting to rally up the rail on She'll Be Doggone when Anchorage, under Jara, came back over to the rail, forcing Prado to snatch up his filly. Prado then galloped She'll Be Doggone to the wire, finishing in front of just one horse. She'll Be Doggone appeared to escape serious injury (Thank God).

We know, there are safety rules for good reason, and there is No doubt that Edgar Prado put the horse in a situation of danger, and that would upset any trainer. I personally like Edgar Prado, but he should know better and shold listen to the trainer..however, i his defense, no one knows what a Jockey deals with on the track. Dutrow to me may have went a bit too far, considering they have teamed to win many races together in the past. I'm sure a lot of his reaction is due to a certain pecking order, for owners put great trust into their trainers, and that is to ensure health and safety of their horses above all else. I think this issue needed to be addressed, but the out come should of been different. After all Edgar Prado, is not a member of the Hall of Fame for nothing. From what I read, Edgar said there was room for She'll Be Doggone in upper stretch to go through along the rail, but the hole closed quickly when Anchorage, who had drifted slightly off the rail, moved back toward the fence in a split second. He insists that there was a hole there, but the stewards gave Jara days so the stewards saw there was a hole there. Prado, as you know was lauded nationally for the way he quickly pulled up Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro at the start of the 2006 Preakness, and he said then ge would never again put any horses or himself in jeopardy...he certainly doesn't need another tragedy to overcome. I'm sure Prado didn't mean any malaise, but this incident for sure needed to be addressed, maybe with a different outcome though...!

    Tough Call !
