How to solve a mathematic ratio?

I need to know how to solve the ratios like 20 : 40 = X : 5? Does anybody have an answer for me?

    20 is half of 40, what number is half of 5?

    I'll use your example:

    20:40 = X:5

    Take 40, and divide it by 5, which gets you 8.

    Now divide 20 by 8 to get 2.5

    so the answer would be: x = 2.5

    Ratio can be also taken as division

    so,

    20/40 = x/5

    (cross multiply)

    40x=100

    x=100/40

    x=2.5

    2.5 or 2 1/2

    ok just saying not to be a b***h but this wasent a hard test it was an assignment we dident have to study for i know this because i go to connections academy too.
