    D. all the others could cause emergence of an infectious disease in a region. microbes do not "try to cause disease."

antibiotic resistance- things like multi drug resistant tuberculosis. these are becoming more apparent because of the rampant use of antibiotics in hospitals

climatic changes- could awaken dormant bacteria and cause rapid growth or could favor their host carriers

digging up soil- could expose pathogenic bacteria to the open air

travel- bringing exotic bacteria to a new location- like bird flu in the past

    I would say C

Climate changes cause infections as well as antibiotic resistance (ie MRSA)

Travel to other countries can introduce new virus to areas (remember swine flu that came from travelers in Mexico)

Microbes is just a tiny organism that can combine and change into new strains of virus.
