Tonsillectomy may be performed in some cases of recurrent Strep throat infection but it's not a golden guarantee for preventing Strep infections. Get a referral for an ENT consult and speak to a surgeon.

I went through this as a kid and into my young adulthood.

I had strep a few times a year every single year. They did not want to take the tonsils out, afraid that without tonsils I would suffer upper respiratory infections or worse.

Eventually I became allergic to penicilin and the strep lingered inside me for over a year. My doctor was reported to the AMA and I had to get my tonsils out.

Then I suffered from inner ear infections almost whenever I swam or flew on a plane, and just in general. Every time I get a cold, I need to take special precautions against inner ear infections.

It's a hassle one way or another.

Talk to your doctor. A doctor is the only person who is qualified to advise you about whether or not you need to have your tonsils removed. No one can advise you through the computer. These days, doctors don't remove tonsils unless you have severe infections very frequently, or inflamation of your tonsils interferes with breathing. See your doctor.

    I doubt it very much.

And don't automatically trust a lot of doctors.
