How much and when do you tip a valet at a restaurant?

On occasion, we'll go to a "nice" restaurant where valet parking is available for a fee. What is the appropriate amount to tip and when do you tip? When they take your car? When they return your car? Both?

    If you have a HOT CAR, PAY MORE, crap car, a couple of bucks.... also check your Odom. if it has more than a mile added, ask the valet for gas money, he went joy riding in it.

    We leave ten bucks or so when we get the car back.
