2005 Durango shutting off while driving?

My 2005 Durango shuts off at random times. While idlling, stopping at lights or signs, driving slowly. So far nothing at a accelerated speed. The RPM gauge goes nutty and the car revs by itself. the dash lights flicker then then the whole car shuts off. the outside lights stay on though. I have found SEVERAL complaints about this on various sites, but everyone says the same thing, the dealerships cant find any codes or any information on this and there have been no recalls. I need help. This is a major safety issue and Dodge doesnt want to help. I went to Advance and they ran some tests, came back with no code, didnt register my engine revs and i didnt pass the Drain Test. Taking to the actual dealership on monday to have them look it over. Luckily, they arent going to charge me if they find no codes. Anyone has a simlar issue

Does your dash console flicker and/or the radio flicker? My 2004 Durango had the engine cut out and the console lights/radio display flicker at the same time. At first all I had to do was start the engine again and go, but the problem happened more frequently and at one point I couldn't rely on the engine turning over. My Durango was in the shop for week while they debugged it - if the regional Dodge factory tech didn't know. Finally the factory guys told the service guys at my dealer to check EVERY wiring harness in the engine compartment. That's what it was - one of the harnesses hadn't been "clipped" in properly at the factory and had started making intermittent contact. I do agree with the other poster that you might want to check your battery/alternator.
