You could become a health care professional such as pediatric oncologist or a pediatric oncology nurse. There are also careers that focus on the emotional needs of children with cancer. I worked with an adolescent psychologist specifically trained to work with oncology patients as well as an art therapist who teaches people with cancer how to express their emotions through their paintings. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma just before my 17th birthday, and even though it's a cancer with an excellent rate of survival, it was still very challenging for me emotionally, and therapy helped me tremendously. I was assigned a really kind pediatric oncology social worker who helped me with some of the more practical matters with cancer. With younger kids she'll even go to their school and explain what cancer means and how it's not contagious so the classmates will know how to react when the kid returns, and will work with the teachers to see that the educational needs are met. I've also met with a nutritionist a few times to help figure out what to eat when chemo changed the way things taste, and I go to a yoga class that is specifically for people with cancer.
These are just a few of the career options I can think of for you.
Good luck! : )
