Hallucinations at night?

I've been searching google to come up with some ideas of what this COULD be but nothing really fits this description. At night, usually starting around 5 or 6 I start seeing things. no matter where I am. I'll be walking around the house and see a face staring at me from around the corner, or I'll hear something and turn and a large humanesque figure will be there and vanish quickly. Just a couple days ago I was in the shower, and (the shower is relativly dark because we have a curtain that acts as a shower door) and I could've sworn I saw bugs scurrying around my feet. I freaked out for a second, and then they vanished. I'm 17 years old, and I don't do drugs or drink alcohol, i'm not into that kind of thing. and its not just IN MY house that I see things. If i'm somewhere else at night I see things there too. but its only at night. It's gotten to the point where I won't go take a shower unless I know someone else is home, because i'm SO scared. Espeically of the human shadows. PLEASE HELP ME.

It could be schizophrenia, but there is one strange thing here - you said you only experience it at night. People with schizophrenia typically hallucinate any time of the day or night.

Do you feel tired or sleepy when you hallucinate? Are you getting enough real sleep (meaning dream sleep, or is your sleep often disrupted?

There is such a thing called hypnagogic hallucinations. Hypnagogia is the state between waking and sleeping, and people can experience weird sensations during this in-between state. Like temporary paralysis, jerking, feelings of floating, and hallucinations. It is not uncommon; I have experienced sleep paralysis several times. You can read more about this on Wikipedia at http://bit.ly/adLf6q

I would go to your doctor and explain all this, and make sure you stress it only happens at night. Also make sure you report any and all sleeping problems. Most likely he/she will refer you to a sleep disorder clinic if that is the problem.

Look up schizophrenia, see if you can find anything about visual illusions.

I have chronic schizophrenia and I first hallucinated when I was your age and bugs were involved. I had a couple of episodes and then it went away until I was in my mid twenties. Experts say that early treatment can be essential for a good prognosis, it can be an acute attack instead of the disease becoming chronic. Sometimes after treatment of a first episode the disease can go into remission.

    So see a doctor, O.K.?
