Solve x(x+8) = 5(4) .... something to do with factoring?

I probably seem like an idiot, I should be able to answer this, but the whole factoring this escapes me. So... HELP! please

    x^2+8x=20

    x^2+8x-20=0

    (x+10)(x-2) = 0

    x= -10 and 2

    whenever you see parenthesis it means you distribute

    to factor you multiply out. so x times x plus x times 8 equils 5 times 4. so once it factors out it looks like this

    x to the power of 2 plus 8 = 20

    the subtract eight from both sides so now it looks like this

    x to the power of two = 12

    then all you have to do is find the square root of 12 and thats the answer to x.

    X squared + 8x=20

    divide 20 by 8x so you get X squared + X= .4

    find the square root of .4

    after that it will be x + x = the square root of .4

    x=2

    or -10

    x=-10
