How Bad are wasp Stings?

I've Never been stung by a wasp.

I Know they're not dangerous as in will hospitalise or kill you etc, but I'd like to know what exactly will happen. Will it just be a sharp pain which will quickly die down? or will it cause a rash or irritation for several hours/days afterwards?

thankyou

Wasp stings are very painful and actually can kill if the victim is allergic. First there is the sharp pain of the stinger entering your skin. Some people report a sort of heat from the venom. Later there will be swelling both locally (right where you're stung) and across the entire same side of the body. Very nasty experience all the way around. I hope this helps.

I know it depends on the kind of wasp, I think it may depend on the particular population of wasp, and it depends on individual sensitivity to the sting. In rare cases, a sting will cause a person to go into anaphylactic shock which may be fatal, especially if not treated promptly. However, this is quite rare. I've been stung by spider wasps while collecting insects. The stings caused absolutely overwhelming pain that seemed to take over an entire arm, but only for a few seconds. I was stung by a yellowjacket last year and was in a lot of pain for the rest of the day and could still feel some pain three days later. I still have a small scar.

Medical problems from bee and wasp stings are broadly broken down into two categories:

Local reactions (only the part of the body near the sting is affected)

Immediate pain, redness, swelling, and itching at the sting site may occur.

A large (greater than four inches across) local reaction may develop over the next 12-36 hours.

A bacterial skin infection, although uncommon, may also begin during the first 12-36 hours (or even after the first few days).

These may cause an enlarging area of redness at the sting site. It may be difficult to tell a local skin reaction and a local bacterial skin infection apart.

Systemic or allergic reactions (parts of the body away from the sting are affected)

Hives (raised itchy bumps on the skin) and itching all over the body

Swelling of the mouth or throat or both

    Wheezing

Shortness of breath or other difficulty breathing

    Nausea

    Vomiting

    Anxiety

    Chest pain

Low blood pressure (weakness or fainting)

In severe cases, marked difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, and even death may occur.

After youve been stung you feel a sharp prick, then it goes, thats when the poisen starts going round your body, about 10 seconds later where you got stung will hurt like a *****, then the pain dies down alot after 30mins and is gone within an hour or so.

For a moderately healthy person that's been stung by only one wasp it does not seem so bad and only last a few minutes. Being stung by nettles is far worse and can last all day.

  • A bit like having bloods taken for a medical test or a vaccination, but after the sharp scratch, there is a split second pause when you think 'Ow, what's that?' then 'OW! That stings!'. It goes off after about 5 minutes and then it's gone shortly after that.

ive been bitten by wasps so many times i lost track. once they bit me on my eyelid, i couldn't open it wide for days. the pain is really bad but not excruciating, its kind of like a bee sting, feels like a harsh sting or needles mixed with a burn.when it does sting someone you have to get the poison out, one way i do that is to put a green tea bag in hot water, make it soak, and when the water turns green/brown put the wet bag on the sting, that helps get the poison out.

it depends on how allergic you are but they hurt no matter what
