How can I find the costs of things in 1830?

I am writing a novel and having trouble finding the cost of things in the 1830's

Update:

In the USA.

Update 2:

Oddly enough, advertisments and want-ads in period newspapers did not include many prices.

You don't say what country. This might help or search on 19th century prices.

Many university libraries have the London Times on microfilm not just in the UK.

Most university libraries will let non-members look at microfilm in the library.

Call the largest one near you. Ask. If they have it and it is open to non-members, spend a Saturday poking through the 1830-1840 editions, looking for advertisements.

You'd have to convert pounds to whatever money your characters use. You'd also have to know that the price of, for instance, a silver -framed mirror for a lady's bed chamber would be 3 - 6 times as much in the howling wilderness that is now Beloit than it would have been in London. 60 pounds of venison, hung and dressed, would be much cheaper, though.
