Did I miss the hummingbirds in northern Illinois?

I was hoping to photograph some hummingbirds this year, but I think I missed their migration north. Did I? When do they go back south? Also, does anyone know of a good place in northern (preferably northeast) Illinois to find them? Thanks.

kathryn, the hummingbirds will find homes in northern Illinois. Either look for flowers they like to frequent (typically large red blooms), or look for places where someone has set up hummingbird feeders. I sat in a restaurant in Whitefish Point (northern peninsula of Michigan) and watched hummingbirds flit around feeders the owners had mounted, totally unconcerned about the people and cars in the area. I live in southeast Michigan, and have had more than one species of hummingbird feed at our feeders all summer long. Plant flowers and hang a feeder - or find someone who has, and you'll find your birds hovering around to feed!

    Good luck!

If there is food and flowers that attract them, thats where you will see them. Here in NE Arkansas, I will be seeing them in the next month.
