Thoughts on Eskendereya.. now that he is out of Kentucky Derby?

Disappointing news just came though that, Eskendereya, the strong favorite for Saturday's 136th Kentucky Derby, was withdrawn from the race Sunday morning because of swelling in his left front leg, per trainer Todd Pletcher.

How does this change things for YOU!

Update:

PROBABLY REASON FOR WRAPS ON FRONT LEGS & NO WORKOUTS AT CHURCHILL DOWNS.

Update 3:

ALL GREAT ANSWERS..

This cat was for sale because of the financial meltdown of Zayat and he has seen millions of dollars melt away with the announcement. When one owes a bank around $34 million, Eskendereya could have made a huge dent in paying the bill. I don't understand why a deal wasn't cut last week, unless the racer was dinged up and Zayat knew he had to wait things out and hope the runner can score big in the summer and at the BC.

    Hi Sandra,

You're right, it is disappointing news. Seems every year lately one of the fav's goes out with an injury. Pletcher does not think it is career ending, but further tests will tell the tail. I hope this is only a temporary setback. He has an incredible pedigree, and hopefull, a very bright future ahead of him. Now that he is out of the Derby, Lookin At Lucky will probably be the morning line favorite. His third place finish in the Santa Anita Derby does not sway my confidence in him as we all know that he got a very bad trip. He is much more talented than that finish would have us believe. That leaves Sidney's Candy who will be the second fav, probably going off at 6-1 or 8-1 with Awesone Act going off about the same. These colts for this years Derby are not getting the credit they deserve. But I think it will be an exciting Derby as always. Happy Derby Day!

It really opens the door with Eskendraya out, I thought his preps were by far the best I've seen in a few years.

Sidneys Candy will be way way overbet. Watch for horses who have a great race on dirt already, Santa Anita is a fake surface so is Keenland so Exhi will get bet too much too.

There are so many front runners in this race that they almost have to kill each other, Candy Exhi, David and others will be treading water when the real racing starts on the far turn. Looking at Lucky has 2 lifetime losses, both times Garrett Gomez made huge mistakes, even if Gomez screws up here, Lucky will have extra time to get rolling he'll just have to watch out for candy and all horses coming to a stop in front of him.

Lucky's best race was at Oaklawn in the Rebel ((they run on real dirt there too like Churchill)) he rolled home with a his biggest numbers on DIRT.

Very rare the Santa Anita Derby winner runs great in the KY Derby, actually Setsuko who ran 2nd will run better than Sidney's Candy on Saturday as will 3rd place finisher from SA Lookin At Lucky.

Look on e-bay Wednesday for the Ky Derby Tip Sheet, it is awesome info on every horse in every race Derby Day.

Unfortunate for the horses injury, but thankfully, he, Eskendereya is not deemed " lame" the connections are humane in the fact that they are pulling him out of the Derby. Kudos to Todd Pletcher, the trainer for being a great person all around.

preserving in thoughts, horse racing is like another sport the position mishaps can and do take position !! So with the exception of sense undesirable about Archarcharch fracturing his left leg, and is now retired from racing. i presumed the outcomes were as unpredictable as always, as we confronted yet another mediocre field this year. Making his first commence over a airborne dirt and dirt floor, 20-to-a million lengthy shot Animal Kingdom got here from the middle of the %., persisted to the middle of the music to capture the Win with information from almost 3 lengths. tremendous ! i change into chuffed for coach Graham action, I mean with Toby’s nook being scratched earlier interior the week, and jockey John Velazquez, who with the scratch of Uncle Mo lost a third mount on a achievable Derby in demand in as many years, yet picked up the mount on Animal Kingdom after Robby Albarado broke his nostril, so i got here upon that exciting. i change into observing for Pants On hearth, questioning if that tremendous tale might want to come to straightforward. i did not know she (Rosie) did so properly interior the Kentucky o.ok. the day formerly, so thanks Sandra (in case you examine this) for video. i imagine we are going to be seeing extra of her now. familiar, I nonetheless loved the Derby as always. (tremendous answer Karin & Sandra) !

not a big surprise. after that waste of a wood memorial victory pletcher knew the horse could not win against quality horses. it has no bearing on my wager.

The air was let out of my balloon. I felt really good about this horse too, was hoping maybe he could have brought us another Triple Crown. Eskendereya reminds me of 'Barbaro' I wish Eskendereya well, if he has a successful recovery maybe we will see him race in the Preakness.
