I found they take a lot of water........I need to use distilled due to high minerals in our well water. I'd go thru several gallons to do the tile floors. A bother. On the other hand, I like it for cleaning the bathroom walls. Obviously a bit more to it than the dedicated floor mop......mine also converts to a heck of a steam iron. Haven't seen it on the market for a few years, pity. Probably due to water needs......lol!

Yes steam mops work. As another contributor mentioned, sweep up floors first. You also have to give it time to build up steam again after a few minutes. The best part is, you no longer need to use chemicals on your floors, the floor dries within seconds and it kills germs and bacteria on contact.

Be careful that you don't let it sit on one spot for too long as it could loosen any glue that holds the flooring down, crack tiles and don't use it on hardwood or laminate hardwood as it may leave those white moisture areas like on wood furniture.

These things make me laugh. If your floor is dirty (who's isn't) just using steam and a "super adsorbent space-age" rag on a machine will not really clean the floor of tough greases and oils. Only good soap will do that. The steam helps to loosen water based soils and can "neaten-up" a tile or wooden floor but it is best to still use good old fashioned methods and then go over the floor with the steamer to "rinse it". Steam will kill bacteria if you have the right time and temperature. Anti-bacterial products do it better.

As long as you sweep before you use them they work OK, I've had people that just wanted me to use that and not sweep or vacuum and all it did was push the dirt around. I prefer using a Libman tornado mop, it's a hair mop and is washable, works great.
