An ESN is the phone's serial number. There is no way to change this. A dirty ESN means the phone has been reported as lost or stolen, so there is no way you can activate. If you're gonna buy a phone from someone, ALWAYS get the ESN first and call Verizon and check..

P.S. Why did you buy a Glyde?????????

Changing the ESN would be the only to clear it if It's been reported lost or stolen. Just so you know it is illegal in the US to change a phone's ESN. If it has a balance you could pay it off, but in those cases it's usually cheaper to just buy the phone new.
