have you tried imtoo studio? it's a pretty good software, and i personally use it. i like it cos of its simple interface and uncomplicated settings (though availabe), easy to use for a beginner like me. i also like it because it has this bit rate calculator, where you just indicate how big the file you want it to convert to, then it will do the compressing for you! plus it has a built-in player, since sometimes i view the video i edit (yes, tweak the brightness and contrast and stuff) before conversion. pretty good stuff, i would recommend it.
