ska skinheads? please explain?

hey so i like ska music and im recently getting more into it...but ive realized while looking up some bands they are liked alot by "skinheads". now iam from south florida and here "skinheads" are rasict..usually under nazi influence etc...i was just wondering if these same "skinheads" from where iam from are the same ones into ska and reggae...because reggae is played alot in jamacia and people there vary in race (such as blacks, asians..etc) and it wouldnt make sense for these "skinheads" to listen to it if they dislike other races..i hope im making sense..and i hope you guys can give me an answer much appreciated :)

-alexis

Update:

btw, iam not judging them. im just curious because the name has a whole different meaning where iam from. iam tottally open to new ideas..soo dont take this personally, lol. &thnks

Real skinheads aren't racist. Ska, reggae, and rocksteady were the original skinhead music styles and are still popular in the scene today. I'm going to list a few ska and reggae bands for you, both old and new, that are especially popular among skins: Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Prince Buster, The Specials, Bad Manners, Judge Dread, Symarip, Selecter, The Skatalites, the Aggrolites, The Beat, Madness. Also, Trojan Records, a huge ska/reggae label, has released a few killer compilations of skinhead reggae and ska.

    First read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead

    Here's Trojan: http://www.trojanrecords.net/

    And 2Tone: http://2-tone.info/index.html

Also, there are tons of nonracist, antiracist, and traditional (ie, into ska and reggae mostly) skins in South Florida. Los Greenkardz are a damn good oi band out of there - as you can guess, they're not nazis.

It's a subgenre of punk rock that was popular in the UK, after many people found originally punk rock to be turning into 'university students trying to be arty.' Genres it has it common include punk rock, glam rock, pub rock and folk music as well as ska music. A skinhead is just a subculture. Despite to popular belief, an overwhelming majority of skinheads are NOT neo nazis.

The skinhead movement started in the UK in the 60s, the original skins were inspired by the Jamaican rude boys and listened to ska and soul music, there was never any mention of politics or racism to start with, it wasn't til the 70s that the skinhead look was hi jacked by the Nation Front, adopting the skinhead look and Nazi ideology's.

There are many different types of skinheads, the majority are not racist. It's only the white power skins that are.

The skinhead phenomena originally was not tied to hatred and bigotry when it began in England

By the way, if your going to become a skin, do it right. It drives me crazy to see people pretending to be skinheads just cos they look cool, wear the right clothes, Ben Sherman, Fred Perry, Levis and Doc Martens and narrow braces

Skinhead is a way of life

A few Oi! bands : Cockney Rejects, The Press, and Sham 69 Oi! is a form of street punk music. It first became popular in the UK. Skinheads listen to Oi! and people think they're racists not all of them are. Skinheads reject labels and politics, others are Neo-Nazis, and others are anti-racists. It's named Oi! after the Cockney Rejects, who used it in their lyrics.

A 'skinhead' is a hair style. Not a statement of racist belief. The skinhead style may well be popular with the racists out there, probably due to its ease of cutting matches their low intellect. However many non racist handsome men like myself sport a skinhead as it suits our facial features. Some ladies consider it quite sexy.. so no its not racist.

Skinheads is used the same where i live, TN but i doubt that it was referring to that where ever you looked up ska and or reggae.

They are just people with a lack of hair, just cause they have bald heads doesn't make them rasict.

In a sense this is prejudice and a form of rasicm is it not, by grouping a set of people into a set of beliefs based on looks!
