should i ask my landlord? thermostat?

i want to ger a programmable thermostat on my heater and i was wondering if i got one would i be able to install it myself or should i ask my landlord to? the thermostat is just outside the box where the AC is so theres no worrying about looseing the leads and i would hate to call them over something i could do myself

    You must ask permission and understand that the thermostat will become a permanent part of the property so you won't be able to take it when you leave. If the AC/ heater is solely for the use of your unit, do it yourself. If you fail, only you will suffer the consequences.

    If you know how to do it, then, I am sure the landlord would be ok with you doing it. It is a very basic procedure.

    It is easy to do, but you should ask. Also, if the old one is mercury based you have to take it to a hazardous waste facility.
