Why can't I get my image to show up on Yahoo! messenger?
I've tried, and tried, and tried! I've re-installed Messenger more than once, reloaded my image several times using 6 browsers (Safari, Firefox, Camino, Opera, Chrome, Internet Explorer) on two systems (MacOSX and Windows), and still cannot persuade the image to display in my Yahoo! Messenger! All I get is the blank grey right-facing profile.
Is there a better way? Or is this, the "nature of the beast"?
I see all the answers are dealing with MSN and Internet Explorer and Windows... none approach my MacOSX system and other browsers... Ah, well, such is life.

Sounds to me like your drivers are obsolete. Go to MSN and enable your Automatic Updates. What happens, is that your settings calls for new Drivers and because your computer's not being upgraded automatically, your old Drivers may have become obsolete.
You can also click on Tools and scroll down to Windows Update, clicking there. Follow your prompts, being sure to enable the Automatic updates.
Either way, when you're finished, restart your computer, when it comes back on you'll get your photos, videos and other audio/visual aspects of your system back online.
These are essential updates and your only alternative is for you to pick and choose which updates should or shouldn't be employed. Are you so computer savvy that you can make these decisions?
I'm not, so I leave it in Windows hands and they've done a superb job these 7-8 years.

If its a new photo have it ready to pick up on your desktop, unless its easy to find in your system
Check your multimedia settings in IE > tools > internet options > advanced
check all boxes in multimedia except "Show image download placeholder"
Open messenger window.
Left click on your avatar picture
Select "display image"
Select "share my picture"
Select "select"
Select a random picture - by clicking on it - (to make sure it changes & your Flashplayer is ok)
Select the picture you want to display, if its not one in the gallery, click "browse" and find the photo you want - double click on it,make sure its in the display panel.
Note sometimes the image will be blacked-out. This will either be a Flashplayer problem or the file you selected the photo from has numbers or / ., etc in the file name - you can try renaming the file.
Click "OK" in top photo panel
Make sure "share my picture" is still selected
Click "OK"
When you open the chat window the display images may be hidden - look for the little "head and shoulder" icon with an arrow pointing to it on the right hand side of the window - click on this to show pictures.
Note. The reference to Flashplayer means IE Flashplayer - even if you use a different browser a lot of the features are relayed via IE
Check your multimedia settings in IE
check all boxes except "Show image download placeholder"

Hello!
I had the same problem, but I fixed it.
The images didn't work on Internet explorer either, but because I don't use IE, I didn't notice that until today. If the pictures don't work in your IE either, then I know how you can fix this.
So, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options then click on the advanced tab. Scroll down to the multimedia.. thing and then make sure that "show image download placeholders" and "show pictures" are checked.
