How to find out what kind of video card I have?

I don't know what kind of video card is in this computer. Since I've gotten it, I just use the standard Windows Driver, so I can't look in the device manager to find out.

I'm trying to do some high end grafix stuff on here, and need the right driver to be able to move forward.

I have no idea what kind it is, I went to the computer manufacturer (Gateway) and it says it's a GForce 7600, but the driver from both gateway and NVidia don't work, so I'm at a loss as to what to try next...

Thanks!

Update:

opening my case wont do anything, the video card is part of the motherboard, and dxdiag will only show info about the driver, not the acual chipset...

Update 2:

CPUZ didn't give me any info about the display at all, not even that it's using the default microsoft display...

Update 3:

Sorry C-Man, but both those programs gave me no information on the acual hardware display adapter...

I've never heard of CPU-Z coming up empty, but here are some other programs which may have better luck detecting the graphics hardware:

    SIW

    http://www.gtopala.com/

    GPU-Z

    http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1207/TechPowe...

See what they have to say... If nothing else, SIW will detect your motherboard model and you can proceed from there.

And yeah, the GeForce 7600 was quite decent- slightly faster than the 8600, although it only supports DirectX 9.

You can try running DXDIAG from your start menu (either the RUN command, or search for it) and click the Display tab and it may tell you.

If that doesn't work, you can try the CPU-Z tool http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Or if all else fails, take the card out and look at it.

The GeForce 7600 wasn't a bad card for its time, but it's a bit dated these days. With the right driver, it should be able to run most games if that is indeed what you have.

    download CPU-Z

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

it will show detail of your hardware in your comp.

well, Video Card is very affordable now, even the cheapest one will be 8 to 10 times better than the one u having now :)

Open your case up to see if you even have a graphics card installed
