YAHOO ANSWERS VIOLATION - Anyone Ever Won An Appeal?

YAHOO ANSWERS VIOLATION - Anyone Ever Won An Appeal?

I often see that people get violations here - not because of Yahoo Answers Admins - but by regular users. This is often seen in users who didn't receive the "best answer" reward for their answer.

Is it simply a bot that automatically violates you upon someone clicking the report button with no explanation? Seems that neither the Reports nor the Appeals are being read.

I have, but those are most assuredly the exception to the rule. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind what is off limits and what is OK. Of course, some sections are worse than others. Try Politics or Religion and Spirituality. Even though the overwhelming majority of questions asked are subjective in nature (as one would expect in areas which are based on opinions), Yahoo likes to imagine it can enforce the same rules in those areas of Y!A that it does in say Makeup and Fashion. Personally, I find that ridiculous. If you want to discuss issues about which opinions run hot and emotions run high, you have to expect a certain level of verbal pyrotechnics.

Yes, I have one an appeal or two but some time ago. Judging from the number of habitual abusers that posts multiple violations daily i assume the report button has been taken off automatic (if it ever was) and YA employees have stopped giving out violations. Of course it might just be favorite users that they ignore the violations for.

I have appealed every violation notice that I have ever received, all to no avail. There was one that I recently had, the question was, what would the name be for a country version of Guitar Hero? I answered "Geetar Hero, Yeehaw!" and was reported because it "was not a question or an answer". When I appealed, I stated that I doubted that anyone ever really read the appeals, and that they were all rejected without a look, and I received a form email saying that it would be looked into. No mention at all about my other comments about them ignoring appeals.

Someone reported me for explaining how a municipal waste water treatment facility works. I answered the question using only the facts that I have learned in 10 years of International water testing and treatment businesses. When I got the email that i had been reported in violation I responded to the message with the facts of the answer and included that I was shocked and disappointed with Yahoo Answers to even let such a blatant false reporting make it to my email without them filtering it out. My appeal was accepted and they said the person who reported me no longer had power to report violations on other people.

Deletions are automatic based on the credibility of the reporter. All appeals are read and if the report is false the posting is replaced and the reporter loses credibility. The system is not perfect but to have enough staff to monitor the whole site would make it unviable.

I think it might be a bot that automatically does it.

I only click report on answers that either have nothing to do with what the question was and on answers that are not helping the person at all, like abusing them, insulting them and/or just plain putting them down for no reason.

Most likely I'm about a 50-60% sucess rate but I'm very careful about posting and avoid controversial subjects as much as possible. Below are some links which cover common deletions and a test which may be of some help.
