Is the concept of black/minority/ethnic studies inherently racist?

Update:

I mean, clearly it is RACIAL in the context that it's about race. And it's also clearly one kind of RACIST too, in the sense that it deliberately treats one race different than another, y'know? But I'm not quite ready to say that it's racist in the supremacist way (some individuals likely excepted, no doubt).

Is European studies racist? No, in fact, it's standard in the US. So how can studying another nationality or ethnic group be considered racist?

Sea's belief that every other ethnic group was sitting around twiddling their thumbs while the Europeans invented everything of value only highlights the need for ethnic studies.

No. You go to school to learn about life and other stuff. Colleges offer a lot of ethnic studies not just Black and minorities. Understanding people around you better is a good thing.

Not racist just there isn't much to teach. Most, well everything that you use or know about came from european/american developments in Tech and values. Granted some/many of those ideas were stolen from asia and the middle east. The history that has relevance is modern and africa hasn't produced much for the last 2000 years.

The african studies are to please people who fell guilty about being white. Give back to all of the ex slaves. The only history that they would have to tell about would be there interactions in america

No because mainstream history, politics, and other social sciences are catering to white's perspective. Ethnic studies (Asian, African, Chicano, Native American, and Gender) focus on minorities' perspectives in those areas. I enrolled in ethnic studies courses other than my own race. This experience helps me understand others' histories and viewpoints.

No. Racism is when you judge or act prejudice to someone because of their race. Studying what is fact in black/asian/white people is just studying.

Yes. It's also racist to have African American Scholarship Funds, Ebony Magazine, etc. We don't discriminate against any race going to our colleges, receiving funds for college, and certainly don't have a Whitey Magazine. Can you imagine if we did?

In that it is putting people into predetermined social classes based on appearance or genetics, yes it is.
