Short answers generally for most questions.
If the question's interesting, informal or something that I am so into, I will give definitely long answers.

Adam,
It depends on the context of the question. Generally, I strive to give a thoughtful, respectful, 3 -4 sentence response. However, I have a few personal guidelines that I follow and they appear below:
1) Some questions deserve a thoughtful yet lengthy response. Generally people who have thoughtful questions, IMHO deserve, a thoughtful response.
2) Some like the 2012 or lunar conspiracy questions, i have found that a long and thoughtful response doesn't do any good. They're just going to as the same question again (although rephrased a little differently) in 5 minutes.
3) Some questions are offered in jest and so, when I get the joke, I try to reply with a comical response.
4) Some questions are just kids asking me to do their home work. So, if it's not a genuine question regarding the homework, I'll usually give a very terse response. but most of the time it's a terse ... "do your own work" or look it up on wiki.
5) Hate or inappropriate forum topics I don't tolerate.
So there you go; A somewhat lengthy response to your thoughtful question.

It depends on the question really (and what mood I'm in while answering it).
I sometimes give short answers, but I usually try to write at least three sentences.
Occasionally (if it's a topic of interest to me) I'll type out a whole paragraph (or two or three).

I think it depends on the question. I give both long and short answers.

A, definately. I dont think its fair to leave someone with just an opinion-stated-as-fact answer. It doesnt help them at all. I like to tell them why I think that way as well, to better help them understand my answer, and thus allow them to better come up with their own answer. Here I ramble again, but hey, sometimes its fun. ^^

B, Short and to the point is better than a long essay you don't have time to read in full.
