Why will the president not obey our immigration laws?

Arizona is the gateway for all illegals since they put a fence up in California where illegals use to enter. Arizona is inundated with 1000's of people daily that it cannot take care of. They don't have jobs themselves. Have mercy on them! The main job of the government is to defend our people! Why is the president breaking the federal laws that have been on the books for 50 yrs.? Let's buy any and all goods grown or produced in ARIZONA!

Update:

I'm talking about the 50 yr old FEDERAL law that is exactly the same as Arizona's. Your right ,none of the presidents have inforced it. But now Arizona's screaming "uncle."

Bernie, these are all valid questions unfortunately, one of your statements is flawed. At one time the main job was for the federal government to defend citizens of the US. While they may pay lip service to this, the real job now is to stay in power and obtain more power. While I don't agree with much that President Obama has done he is really no worse on the immigration issue that President Bush. It will be interesting to see which is considered the worst president of the last 100 years. I thought Bush had a lock on this but now I'm not so sure. I remember Bush declaring our borders safe from terrorists crossing our borders about 7 years after 9/11. At that time I couldn't help but be glad that they must have been riding snails if this was to be truly effective.

Both presidents and most politicians have tried to avoid the issue for but for different reasons. Republicans have tended to avoid it because of the cheap labor supply that it has given business which tends to support them. Democrats have also avoided it because they know at some point some sort of amnesty deal will be worked out and most likely those pardoned will become loyal Democratic voters. Look for Obama to attempt to cut some sort of amnesty deal either before the end of his first term or the beginning of his second term if he has one. If it looks like he has no chance of a second term I expect this will be accelerated. So both sides while equally inept and corrupt have their reasons for doing nothing, The fact that Arizona has taken a stance is admirable. States are well within their rights to enforce federal law when the federal government won't or nullify or pass their own laws when in the states best interest. As long as the laws are not ruled unconstitional it's completely legal. From what I've read the Arizona law has lots of the federal law basically cut and pasted into it. This is similar to the 287g program that many jurisdictions that were inundated by alien law breakers have used to detain and ultimately deport criminal illegal immigrants.

On a personal note, I don't see any kind of mass deportations as being realistic or practical. It might be possible to grant those already here some sort of 2nd class probationary citizen status. We could pick and chose who stayed and impose a hefty fine for violation of our immigration laws. That could be used to fund social security while those that were granted amnesty established their citizenship. Criteria like learning English, a clean driving and criminal record could be used as a standard as to who stayed. Most that come here I suspect really want to work and better themselves, but we have a duty to all citizens, naturalized and native born, to weed out the bad ones and send them back to where they came from.

He doesn't want to enforce the law because they are ready to legalize anyone who is already here with their amnesty bill. The democrats want this to increase their voting base. The republicans are no better, they want the illegals for the cheap labor they provide. Both parties are turning the blind eye to this hotly debated issue because they don't want to fix the problem. I'm glad to see Arizona stand up to the Federal Government. We need more states to do this.

The US constitution provides that immigration is a federal matter. Federal law provides that only certain federal law enforcement personnel enforce immigration law.

Our president is already positioning himself for the next presidential election. He thinks he will get the Latino vote if he ignores the immigration issue. With his approval ratings slipping, he is targeting the minority voters at this time.

    I agree with you.

the President is not the judge. AZ is it's own state & can choose to make & enforce its own laws.
