Cannot connect to default gateway?

Hey guys, I can't connect to my router's default gateway, no matter what I do.

I opened up the command prompt, ipconfig, got the default gateway (192.168.1.1) and tried to connect and firefox gave me the message: "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.1."

I then tried to connect via wired.

No luck.

Then reset the router and tried to connect, all to no avail.

help?

Update:

Router is a Linksys WRT320N.

Update 2:

Did you just copy and paste that because I did all of those things >_>

are you sure that this is the router's default address? not all routers use 192.168.1.1

Do a quick google search for the router (brand and model) and see if you can find the manual online then check there for the correct IP address

The other option is that you are not connected to the router. If you are trying to access it using wireless, and you do not have an assigned IP address, you will be unable to get to the gateway. Try connecting using an ethernet cable (if you have not tried that yet)

Hmmmm. That is interesting. The default IP address for that router definitely is 192.168.1.1, have you had any issues with malware or viruses lately? can you ping 192.168.1.1? Are you using DHCP or are you setting your IP address manually?

My initial thoughts to check would be to first check to make sure you are on the same network as your router, if you are using DHCP this shouldn't be an issue but if you aren't make sure your IP address is 192.168.1.x and your sub net mask is 255.255.255.0. If that is fine I would check my hosts file, the location of your hosts file will depend on your OS. Open the hosts file and make sure there is no entry with 192.168.1.1 in the file, if there is delete it and save it.

If you can answer a couple of the questions I have, we can probably figure this out! Hope this gives you a start.

Try to disable and then enable network connections. If that does not work open command prompt, type this in the run textbox, and type ipconfig /release. Then type ipconfig /renew. Then close command prompt.
