What do abandoned baby robins eat when almost grown?
There was a nest containing 4 baby robins on my front porch. Silly Mama bird built the nest around my porch light. Well, something got at the nest, knocking it to the tiles below. One baby died, I guess from the fall. The other two disappeared. Now there is one baby left. it looks almost old enough to fly, and seems very healthy. What can I feed it until I get a bird rescue to take him? It all happened a couple hours ago. Thanks for any advice.

Leave that last baby in the nest for the parents to come back to care for..they will continue to feed it and raise it. Put the nest back as close as possible to the original location. What makes you think the baby is abandoned..birds are very dedicated parents..they will come back looking for their nest and babies. If you replace the nest do not constantly check on it..this will keep the parents away. You can watch from afar with binoculars to check that they are visiting to feed, etc. ONLY if you watch continually for at LEAST an hour and see NO sign of the adults..only then should you take the bird to a local wildlife rehab:

if this baby bird has feathers, and not just downy fluff, then it is most likely a fledgling and should not be put back into a nest. Leave the bird on the ground where you found it. since it is still alive and healthy that is because the parents are still taking care of it. Fledgling birds are learning what to eat, how to fly and all the things birds need to know and they learn it from the parents If you try to feed and care for the bird, it will not learn how to find food for itself, and will die when you release it. besides it is against the law for you to care for a wild bird. we have this law because you will do the bird more harm than good by taking it from its natural environment.

Most birds like robin regurgitate there food and feed it to the young. Even if you do feed these babies the odds of them serviving are slim. Sorry but thats just the way of nature... Good Luck and I hope all goes well... remember there is always a chance!!!

You can go to a bird shop and they will tell what specific food you need to get for that bird. The best thing to do is to call animal control and they will give you a number to a wildlife rehab so people can take care of it properly.
Hope this helps. :)

Robins like worms. That's probably what the mother has been feeding them. If you've got a bait shop nearby you can probably get a pretty good deal on a big thing of earthworms.
