So: Anyone for a bet on the snooker final?
Any ideas why Higgins didn't report this if he's innocent? Any ideas why he kept missing easy shots against Steve Davis? Everyone know that he's part of a company organising tournaments in eastern Europe? Why is one of the commentators so fixated on betting odds when he speaks?
Weirdly, I thought Hansie Cronje the disgraced S African cricket captain was above it too. I also think that Hearne may not be as shocked as he is making out. Is he involved, for example in pushing the "sport" abroad? Remember, Higgins already said the sport may be dead in ten years if it didn't progress -make hay, hey?

I didn't have a bet on this year, all though 5 years ago I bet on Matthew Stevens to win it. I had £10 on him at 14/1 I think it was. My gut told me he would win it before it began and how close he came, losing 18-16 to Murphy in the final. In the year 2000 I saw Murphy for the first time as an 18 year old and said to myself that he would be World Champion in 2006! I was a year out, but winning it in 2005 meant he would still be World Champion for almost half of 2006.

Oh what a cynic you are but what you say has a ring of being likely to be true about it, Barry Hearne has already said that if a player other than a British player was to win, Snooker will be a much more popular game world wide and because the last overseas player to win it was Cliff Thorburn 35 years ago, a Neil Robertson win would be a great thing for the future of snooker, which would mean more competitions, more money for the players and of course much much more for Barry Hearne, especially if the Americans become involved, so, maybe you have a point.

If this breaking news is found to be true then any player, irrespective of his status in the sport, should be banned from the professional game for life.
I say this without condemning anyone, until reasonable proof of the practice can be obtained.
Though why grossly overpaid milllionaires should want to indulge in cheating the public in this way to make more money, I cannot imagine !
