Does Manny Pacquiao need to fight Mayweather to prove his boxing legacy?

Manny has already proven his legend by earning seven titles over seven weight divisions. Does Pacquiao still need to fight (and beat) Mayweather to prove Pacman is the better boxer?

NO!! Pacquiao has nothing to prove. He does not need Mayweather to prove his boxing skills. Mayweather and Dela Hoya belong to each other. I cant believe De la Hoya saying that Mayweather is a better boxer than Pacman. Maybe his brain got clogged up when Pacman beat him up and he surrendered to Pacman.

A big NO, why should he? It should be the other way around. four years ago Manny was still fighting at the junior feather weight class now he is lording over at the 147 pound class. The issue of using PED invented by the Mayweathers is designed just to malign and upstage a fellow athlete. We already know that drugs is a poor substitute to natural ability, because Pacquiao refused to be commanded by a fellow athlete he is now assumed guilty? No way. It should be Mayweather supporting his accusation. Pacquiao is surrounded by several boxers and people wherever he practices and none can or will say that he is using illegal substances. Maybe it is the other way around. We knew that the Mayweathers are not new to using drugs. The accusers could be the users. Reverse psychology in action. If I were Mayweather I'll fight Pacquiao even with the thought of Pacquiao using PED. This is the ultimate test of physical ability, then have tests immediately after the game.

Mayweather's accomplishments is not ignored by the media or boxing experts. He is ranked no.2 p4p best in the world today. That is a huge accomplishment and respect from boxing experts. Pacquiao is fighting for legacy while Mayweather is fighingt for money and maintaining his perfect record by getting easy fights. No, he will never equal Manny Pacquiao's legacy, it is too late for him, especially in a time when prime Mosley and Cotto dominated the welterweight, only if he fought those guys and won, he would have more respect than what he has now.

Actually Manny does not have to fight Mayweather to prove his boxing legacy, he is the only boxer to have won titles in seven weight divisions and that has nothing to do with Floyd. Floyd Mayweather has to fight him to cement his claim as the real best Pound for Pound boxer of the planet a distinction he once held and later on to the present is bestowed upon Manny Pacquiao. To prove his claim as the greatest boxer of all time many boxing critics feels he has to get by Pacquiao. Pacquiao on the other hand has made no claim that he is the greatest boxer of all-time, it is just that some boxing critics call him that as others also bestow this distinction to Floyd Jr. If and when they do fight and Manny Pacquiao wins then besides being an undisputed Champion among Champions he would really be crowned the greatest fighter of all-time. However if Floyd Mayweather wins it will also cement his claim to being the greatest boxer of all-time. Mayweather for the meantime can not be taken seriously for this claim lest he step on the ring with Pacquiao, while Manny's legacy is not entwined with the Money man, the same cannot be said of Floyd's own claim to his legacy, he should get by Manny Pacquiao for him to be considered to be truly the best fighter on the planet.

Not really. Pacquiao has done as much if not more than most. Its mainly about making money. Mayweather has few other opponents to make the big bucks with. Even with both of them having outstanding records, the general public knows only Heavyweight champions. The education for the public is picking up and a match will be made when the prize money is the right size.

hello! are you serious? why ask this kind of stupid question? In History of Boxing or Anything, the ones who comes back is the one who have to prove something! Gayweather already retired yet a new P4P arises, a challenge, an exciting fight if you really have the passion in boxing, that's why he came back from retirement. And now, he's back! He's Back to Prove How Very Big is his Mouth! He earns his money this way, a very ordinary Marketing Strategy! Man! You need to earn more, the money you earn in america is equally being paid the same. You'll be broke sooner or later! here in the Philippines your 1$ is equivalent to 44 Pesos. Nyahahahaha... its 43 times the amount we spent here. And Another Dude, if eventually you come to think in having your mouth fixed, I recomend you Belo or the Calayan they are experts in fixing BIG MOUTH like you have and it's cheaper. Bwahahahaha.....

Pacman is a very religious and god-fearing man who believes that honor to his country is more important than money. As Mayweather could not buy this man, he has no other choice except to stick to his unnecessary demand for drug test. Mayweather will do everything to strengthen his bargaining position over Pacman even at the expense of the reputation of the boxing industry as a whole.

Yes if he wants to prove he's the better boxer than PBF. Right now though PBF is just a better boxer as I'm sure Manny would be the underdog should they ever meet. But Manny's "legacy" is secure win or lose.

To prove he is better then Floyd, absolutely, the only way you can definitively prove you're better then someone in boxing is to fight them and win. Everything else is just fan conjecture.

to prove that he is a great champion fighter he does not need to fight Floyd.

Still if he wants to go down as one off the best of all time, firmly entrenched in the P4P lists, and boxing hall of fame then fighting Floyd is a must. That is if he still has the hunger and passion to impose his will, and be regarded as the best of our era unanimously.

Pacman has nothing to prove it is Mayweather who has something to prove. It is Pretty Boy Floyd who is coming up with excuses not to fight Manny Pacquiao. Money Mayweather is the one chasing Pacuiao.....he is fighting the same opponents trying to convince himself and the fans that he is better.
