who should pay for taxi cost?

my friend from abroad is currently staying in my city and has to leave soon to sort out things in his home country, but will come back after a few months. he has asked to leave his luggage at my place as there's no point taking it with him as he'll be returning. im thinking of telling him to take a taxi to my place as we have no car to pick up him and public transport will be inconvenient. should i offer to pay for the taxi or should he pay for it?

ask first if you have to pay, but if you want to be nice to him pay it

He should pay but don't tell him to take a taxi as he may be expecting you to pay for it.

What you need to say is that you are more than happy to look after his stuff but as you have no car you will not be able to collect it on his behalf. Then he should say that he will get a taxi. If he doesn't, you suggest all transportation to your place, eg taxi, train, bus etc.

You're doing him a favor by keeping his luggage for him - How he gets it to you is up to him. If he takes a taxi, it should be on his dime.

If you are doing him a favour then he should pay.
